Pfaff Motorsports takes home fourth at Road America

August 7, 2023

Elkhart Lake, WI (August 7, 2023) – Pfaff Motorsports fought valiantly on Sunday morning to continue its podium streak at the fan-favorite Road America racetrack, only coming up short by one position to finish fourth.

Track conditions were precarious in the days leading up to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race, with practice sessions marred by off-track excursions as drivers navigated the newly paved 4.048-mile circuit.

However, the drivers of the No. 9 Driveway Porsche 911 GT3 R, Klaus Bachler and Patrick Pilet, quickly took to the track and kept the car clean from first practice on Friday to the checkered flag on Sunday.

In the team’s previous three races in Elkhart Lake, the Plaid Porsche was victorious twice and added a podium in the third attempt. But as has been throughout the 2023 season, lack of pace due to the series’ Balance of Performance was a significant factor in the team’s gap to the leaders and its podium streak at Road America coming to an end. With three rounds remaining this year, the team maintains fourth position in the GTD Pro class championship.

Next for Pfaff Motorpsorts is a trip to VIRginia International Raceway for the second and final GT-only event of the 2023 WeatherTech Championship season. On Sunday, August 27 at 2:10 p.m. ET, the GTD Pro and GTD classes will contest the Michelin GT Challenge, which the Driveway Porsche returns as the defending winner in GTD Pro.

Team Quotes:

Klaus Bachler: “We started P7 in GT and P5 in class, then we had a good race with no mistakes. We did everything really well and I’m really proud of the team again. Good strategy, good pit stops, but in the end, we finished P4. We did not have the pace for more. Now it’s a three-week break before we go to VIR and I hope we will be better there and fight for the victory.”

Patrick Pilet: “It was a really difficult race, and we tried our best. Unfortunately, with perfect execution it was only P4 today. It will be good to have some days off just to recharge the batteries and come in stronger for VIR.”
